The Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) for The Edinburgh Tram Project was passed in November 2010. This TRO shows the changes in traffic flow and other regulatory procedures that the City of Edinburgh Council believes are necessary for the tram system to operate.
One of the changes in the TRO is to ban the right hand turn from London Road into Blenheim Place for traffic coming from the centre of Edinburgh. This junction is one of only two entrances to Royal, Regent and Carlton Terraces.
This web page describes the response from the Keep Blenheim Place Open Group to the proposed ban of the right turn into Blenheim Place from London Road. Our Group marshalled support by collecting signatures for a petition and getting people to write letters to the Council. We also commissioned an independent traffic engineer to draw up an alternative proposal.
We are delighted to report that we have had some success to date. The Council have agreed not to implement the ban on the right hand turn for the moment and investigate an alternative design for the junction. This is described in two reports passed by the Transport, Infrastructure & Environment Committee in November 2010.
